Original 1st printing 5&1/2 x 8&1/2" concert handbill for the Big Brother & the Holding Company (about 6 months before Janis Joplin joined) appearing at the Open Theater in Berkeley, CA on 1/15/1966. Design by Wes Wilson, this is the second image from the "Open Theater" pair of images and is designated FD VI in the Eric King Guide (pre-dating the Family Dog numbered series by about a month). Thin flat stock handbill is in decent (B/B-) condition; a series of staple/pin holes (top left/right corners, top center margin, a few hiding within the image area and just beneath the bottom edge of the image (along the lower crease), a series of semi-flattened horizontal/diagonal creases (item was folded into 1/3rds), a 3/4" tear in the bottom left center edge/margin, a series of thin bends, creases, a few tiny stains/scuffs and other assorted bits of wear and tear here and there... definitely a used/worn specimen. Conditional issues aside, this is still a pretty hefty score for just about any FD collector, considering the age and outright scarcity of this handbill. As an additional note of provenance, this example comes right from the collection of the one and only Dan Hicks (Charlatans, Hot Licks).
