Original 1st printing 18&7/8 x 25" concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) appearing at the Matrix in San Francisco, CA from 11/1-6/1966. Art by Stanley Mouse, image (flyer) is featured in the Art of Rock on page 164 (plate 2.111). This is the LARGE hand-puled silkscreen version that was distributed through/sold at Mouse's "Pacific Ocean Trading Co." store in Haight-Ashbury. Medium-thin textured ("striped") index stock poster is in used (B-) condition; there is a large 2 x 2" chunk of paper missing from the lower left margin area, along with a decent-sized tear (2-3") stretching just up to the corner of the image area, plus a series of thin bends, edge wear, creases, light stains, toning, etc... this example has obviously seen better days, HOWEVER... it is still mostly "all there" and the image area still looks mostly OK. A little bit of restoration and this piece should come out looking just fine (we can recommend someone if needed). Considering how scarce this poster is (and usually REALLY EXPENSIVE in nice shape), this one is not for the condition-sensitive, but it's still a VERY early and hard-to-find Janis Joplin item from San Francisco that deserves a good home.
