 ITEM DESCRIPTION

Original 1st printing 11&1/2 x 16&1/2" 24-page debut issue of "Rolling Stone" (Volume 1, issue #1- the original underground newspaper format with the Rick Griffin-designed logo), featuring the infamous John Lennon photo from "How I Won the War", full-page ads (Captain Beefheart "Safe As Milk", a REALLY cool Greg Irons-drawn ad for KMPX, East Totem West posters, Diana Ross & the Supremes at Oakland Coliseum), stories on Monterey Pop, the bust at the Grateful Dead house, an interview with Donovan, David Crosby getting booted from the Byrds, an ad for the BG 90 show at the Fillmore and MUCH more.

Thin newsprint stock paper is in decent/used (B-) condition; horizontal center fold (as issued), a fair amount of toning/fading, the paper has started to dry out and get slightly brittle, there's a fair amount of edge fraying/tattering/browning around the outer edges with a hard split going through the entire issue at the right center margin (about 1" or so into the paper) with a small chunk out of the right center margin on the front page, a fair amount of spine wear and a couple of stray stains on the cover... you get the idea. Conditional issues aside, the issue is complete and intact with no missing pages, removed ads or outside embellishments. Used, but it's all there.

I don't think I need to tell anyone how important this particular cultural artifact is to 1960's rock culture, and the fact that this example has survived intact over the last 47 years is (to me) pretty amazing.
