Original 1st printing 5&3/8 x 8&1/2" band-issued hand-stamped concert handbill for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) appearing "With One of Chicago's Greatest Bluesmen", Howlin' Wolf at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 9/23-24/1966 (*show canceled). Art by Dennis Nolan, image corresponds with # 27 in the Family Dog/Avalon series and is featured (with a "Red Dog Saloon" imprint) in the Art of Rock book on page 90 (plate 2.3). Thin flat stock handbill is in good (B) condition; a tiny staple wedge pull (about 3/4") in the upper right corner, a couple of tiny staple/pin holes in the other corners, along with a slight amount of surface wear (a slight vertical scuff/scratch along the left margin), a bit of edge wear (a small nip/bump in the lower right margin) and a couple of soft diagonal bends in the top left/right and lower left margin, otherwise fine. ULTRA-uncommon version of this early Big Brother handbill, this one almost never turns up. A VERY special item for the sophisticated handbill collector.
