Original 28 x 22&1/2" concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (Featuring Janis Joplin) with Shiva's Headband and Winter (Johhny & Edgar) at the San Antonio (TX) Hemisfair Theater of Performing Arts on 11/21/1968. Art by Texas poster legend Jim Franklin (JFKLN), show was presented by Austin's Vulcan Gas Company and is of the only non-Austin images in the VG series. Poster itself is in superb very good to near mint condition; other than a few very subtle creases (almost invisible from the front), ultra slight toning and a minor amount of edge wear (a few tiny 1/4" -1/3" tears around the top and bottom edges), this one rates out to a solid B+ to A-/B+ condition, one of the sharpest looking Janis posters there is. Other than having the noteriety as one of Janis' 1st home state appearances as a full fledged rock star, it was also one of the last shows BBHC did with Janis as vocalist (she played her final show with the band about a week and a half later in San Francisco). The "Joint Factory" image (as it is affectionately known by some..) is arguably one of the most striking posters of the psychedelic era, from Jim Franklin's ultra-detailed portrait of a smiling Janis to the bright reverse split fountain inking technique... this one definitely fits the "classic" category if there ever was one. This poster will be up for sale on the site from Sept. 29th-Oct. 10th.
