Original 1st printing 20 x 26" 1986 hand-pulled embossed (by Stanley Mouse/Running Mouse Serigraphy) test proof silkscreen art poster for the Grateful Dead.
Art by (and SIGNED in pencil by) Rick Griffin, thick flat oak-tag (22.5 rag stock) silkscreen poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there is a small 1&1/2" vertical scrape/surface pull in the lower left corner (between the bottom edge of the image and Griffin's signature), along with a series of 6-7 small white paint splatter marks in the lower left corner/margin, a tiny surface scuff in the lower right margin, a hint of a curl to the paper and a trio of light tape shadows on the reverse, otherwise fine.
This particular version has a "mustard"/dull yellow pass of ink within the California state outline (I have also seen light brown and metallic gold versions), and is not part of the numbered or artist's proof editions. I'm assuming the sheet it was printed on was damaged to begin with... essentially a test version that somehow escaped the studio.
This image was originally produced in late 1986 to coincide with the opening of Psychedelic Solution Gallery in NYC (the image is # 4 in the PS/Psychedelic Solution series), the print run was initially intended to include 500 units- less than 200 of them were actually completed/signed/numbered by Rick and Mouse (not counting proofs).
An overall SUPERB example of this impressive-looking Rick Griffin Grateful Dead image from the mid-1980's.
