Unofficial/unauthorized 1966 bootleg (murky "Bindweed Press" credit/no dot screen in FD logo) printing 14 x 19&1/2" concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin -her debut performances with the band) appearing with Quicksilver Messenger Service at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 6/24-25/1966.

 Medium-thin flat vellum stock poster has been professionally restored to good (B) condition; there are NUMEROUS paper fills/sealed tears around the outer margin (a couple of tiny edge nicks and tears remain), along with a series of flattened horizontal folds/pressed-out creases/tiny bends and a light cleaning... definitely a bit of a Frankenstein, but all there. 

 While the fact that this one is a bootleg may scare away some folks, this poster is actually a very fascinating early piece of the Family Dog puzzle; as the image was immediately HUGELY popular upon release, it was just a short matter of time before unauthorized reprints began to circulate (before the end of 1966); when they were initially discovered, a number of confiscated examples were hand-stamped "GENUINE COUNTERFEIT" by the Family Dog staff (this example seems to have escaped that fate), but most of them appear to have been either destroyed or distributed into the ether... nobody really knows.

 

 By most accounts (that I have found), this was the very FIRST documented "bootleg" psychedelic concert poster.
