 ITEM DESCRIPTION

Original 1st printing 20 x 29&7/8" day-glo boxing-style letterpress fly-posting concert poster for the 2-day Torquay Beat and Blues Festival, held at the Town Hall in Torquay, England from 8/5-6/1966.

Poster advertises appearances by Jimmy James and the Vagabonds appearing with the Betterdays, the Kynd and the Reaction on 8/5, and Cream (featuring Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce) appearing with the Drifters and the Package Deal on 8/6. (*this was only the fifth live performance by Cream, the promoters had to add the members' previous band associations (Yardbirds-EC, "Mannfreds"-JB and Graham Bond- GB) so people would know who they were- the band had only been named a few weeks prior)

Medium flat vellum stock letterpress silkscreen poster has been professionally restored to very good (B/B+) condition; as this piece was removed from outdoor public display in 1966, there are a number of tiny stress bends/creases throughout the piece and a couple of soft stains that remain along the bottom border, along with a pair of thin 5&1/2" diagonal bends in the upper right/lower left corners, a series of moisture-induced vertical stress creases/tightening in a few areas and a series of repaired edge tears, approximately 1" of the top border/edge has been re-attached and some of the lettering has been cleaned up, but the results are nothing less than FANTASTIC.... pretty nice work on a challenging piece.

INCREDIBLE-LOOKING and MEGA-COOL Cream poster from one of the band's earliest gigs. This could very well be the ONLY existing example of this seminal piece.
