Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 14" performance/event flyer for "Up Against the Wall Theatre", a multi-act benefit show (*for the Columbia (University) legal defense funds) featuring performances by the Living Theatre, Open Theatre, Pageant Players, along with readings by Julian Beck and Judith Malina (Living Theatre), Ben Morea (UAW-MF), held at the Fillmore East in New York City on 10/22/1969.
Designer unknown/not credited, image is from an outside production company (Radical Theatre Repertory and Alumni for a New Columbia) and is not officially part of the Bill Graham/Fillmore East series (although this event was during the same time period that BG occupied the space).
Thin flat stock flyer is in good to very good (B to B/B+) condition; there are a series of brown tape residue marks in the upper left/right, bottom left and lower right margins, a semi-flattened pair of vertical/horizontal folds, light handling, a few stray surface dings, a tiny edge tear in the lower left margin and a bit of smudging/residue on the reverse, otherwise fine.
EXTREMELY UNCOMMON oddball late-1969 Fillmore East item from a VERY unique Fillmore event... apparently Bill and Julian Beck got into a heated argument over the Living Theatre's treatment of the venue during their "performance" (and the crowd they brought in with them). Bill talks about it in the Robert Greenfield biography- he did not appreciate the notion of "radical" performance, in particular when it involved nudity and body fluids.
