Original 8&5/8 x 11" full-color concept sketch (colored pencil, ink and watercolor on semi-thin sketchpad vellum) and original 1st printing 13&5/8 x 20" concert poster (index stock) for the Youngbloods appearing with Kaleidoscope (featuring David Lindley) and Hourglass (featuring a pre-Allman Brothers Band Duane and Gregg Allman) at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 5/24-26/1968.
Art by John Thompson, image is #120 in the Family Dog/Avalon series.
The concept sketch is in great shape- just a few light handling dings and a tiny bit of ink bleed in the lower right corner from a stamp on the reverse, otherwise fine.
The reverse side has a bit of pencil scratch (John's old address and an explanation of where the original black and white line art wound up), along with John's thumb print (in black ink), the aforementioned "Entered" stamp (in blue, in the lower left corner- covering part of John's signature), along with a small piece of typing paper scotch-taped onto the reverse which explains the origin of the image and how it came about (a VERY interesting back story).
The poster is in near mint to excellent (A-/B+ to B+) condition- there is a small thin vertical bend in the lower left margin/edge and a few light dings here and there- nothing major.
All in all, a VERY COOL pair of ORIGINAL one-of-a-kind 1968 Family Dog artifacts that were originally obtained right from the artist's studio.
