 ITEM DESCRIPTION

Original 1st printing 11" square concert mini-poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with Country Joe & the Fish at the Carousel Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 2/14/1968.

Art by Stanley Mouse & Alton Kelley, image ("Be Mine") is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 182 (plate 2.174).

Medium flat index stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; a series of thin semi-soft horizontal/diagonal bends criss-crossing the lower part of the image area (around where it says "Grateful Dead" and "Carousel Ballroom", plus a thin stress bend in the upper right margin, a series of stray handling/stress dings and tiny surface scratches and a hand-drawn map to a house in Marin County on the reverse, otherwise fine... a very sweet-looking example of the infamous Valentine's Day "Be Mine" image.

One of the more incendiary shows from early '68 (Bob Weir's infamous "Burn down the Fillmore, gas the Avalon" chant during "Alligator" was born on this night), the full show was released as part of the "Road Trips" series.

This poster (and several others we are featuring in this sale) comes from the collection of underground comix artist (and personal friend of Rick Griffin and Rick Shubb) George Metzger. Read more about George HERE:

Q Hi Brad, Is that ink or pencil on the reverse side? If ink, is any bleeding through to the front? Thanks, Jan  posted by: euphorbioid  6/1/2016 8:22:22 PM
