Original 1st printing 20 x 14&1/8" concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) appearing with Blue Cheer and Eighth Penny Matter at the Family Dog at 1601 West Evans in Denver, CO on 9/8-9/1967. (*1st Family Dog held shows at the venue). Art by Rick Griffin, image is # 79/D-1 in the Family Dog/Denver series. This is the small format (OP-1 in the Eric King Guide) version. Medium flat index stock poster is in near mint to excellent (A-/B+ to B+) condition; a soft pinch bend with a couple of tiny thin stress creases in the lower left corner/margin, one or two tiny edge/corner dings, a pin-prick stain in the right center margin, a pair of thin black scuff marks on the reverse and a couple of nearly-invisible handling dings hiding within the image area, otherwise fine. VERY nice-looking example of the very first poster in the FD Denver series. This poster (and several others we are featuring in this sale) comes from the collection of underground comix artist (and personal friend of Rick Griffin and Rick Shubb) George Metzger.
