 ITEM DESCRIPTION
 Original 1st printing 16&3/4 x 22" concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), appearing with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band at the War Memorial in Syracuse, NY on 10/11/1968. (show was part of "Sounds of '68", the homecoming celebration for Syracuse University)

 Artist unknown/not credited (printed by Merit Press), medium-thin flat index stock poster is in decent/used (B/B- to B-) condition; the paper has dried out significantly and is VERY brittle... in addition, there are a number of decent-sized edge tears and small areas of missing paper along the top/bottom margins, with a couple of rounded/nipped corners, a series of well-placed pin/staple holes (all four corners and a few hiding within the image area), an area of slight discoloration/toning along the left side, a few soft tape pulls around the edges, a 3" split/tear going through the "S OF" part of "SOUNDS OF '68", etc...  this poster REALLY looks like it was pulled down from public display in the fall of 1968, but it's still (mostly) all there.

 VERY, VERY uncommon low-run Big Brother/Janis poster from a small regional show in upstate New York. One concert attendee has a GREAT story about hanging with the band (minus Janis) after the show;

THAT was a show to remember! Janis Joplin and her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. I didn't know Janis was so drunk that night, as it didn't come across to the audience. Now I know why she didn't come along when I had the time of my life, taking the rest of the band, after the concert, to Cap'n Mac's Clam Shack on Erie Blvd in De Witt, where I worked, to eat, drink, and see The Inedible String Bland, (no typographical errors there), consisting of Tony Trischka, Tom Hosmer, and Tersh, aka Harry Gilmore III, now known as Lou Martin. If their bass player, John "JD" Dancks had been there, they would have been The Down City Ramblers, our great local bluegrass band. Tom Hosmer, playing guitar, fiddle, and mandolin, introduced Tony and Tersh, and then said, "and I'm Janis Joplin", which the members of Big Brother and the Holding Company just loved.
