Original 15&1/8 x 20&1/8" hand-embellished blue-line production art on heavy crescent board for Junior Wells (and His Chicago Blues Band) appearing with Santana and the Sons of Champlin at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 5/17-19/1968.
Art by Bill Henry with image is # 119 in the Family Dog/Avalon series. This board was used to create the plate for the magenta pass of ink (Bill Henry's color notes are in the bottom margin; this particular color was made from a combination of solid red with 15% blue ink added)
Extra-thick board is in absolutely fantastic condition; as it is a unique one-of-a-kind piece, a traditional letter grade doesn't really apply, but if I had to say, it is a solid A- to A-/B+ overall... very minimal wear, just the slightest whisper of surface wear (a few ultra-tiny smudges) and that's it. Seeing as the magenta is one of the more prominently featured colors on the poster, there is a LOT of Bill Henry's own hand-inking done on this piece... it really works as a stand-alone piece of art with a tightly-rendered design and a VERY psychedelic layout.
Without a doubt, this is DEFINITELY one of the most unique Family Dog items I have come across. A copy of the original 1st printing postcard will be included with the board.
