 ITEM DESCRIPTION

 Original 1st printing 19 x 25" 1969 peace campaign poster, "WAR IS OVER! (IF YOU WANT IT) Happy Christmas from John & Yoko", a holiday-seasonal greeting/promo for world peace, created by and distributed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

 Design by John and Yoko, medium flat index stock poster is in beautiful near mint to excellent (A-/B+ to B+) condition; just a few small edge dings and an extra-thin tiny vertical bend along the right margin, a hint of handling, a touch of toning, a few tiny edge dings in the lower left margin, a slight curl to the paper and a nearly-invisible diagonal bend in the top center margin, otherwise fine.

 FANTASTIC-looking (and 100% verified-see below*) 1969 1st-edition example of John and Yoko's largest-ever multi-media campaign for world peace, a message that has just the same potency today as it did 46 years ago. Here's the background on this one, right from the consignor;

 In the very political year of 1969, John Lennon made three trips to Canada.

 The first was in May for the (now famous) "Bed-In for Peace", held at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, where he met with media reporters and recorded " Give Peace A Chance ".

 In September, he was persuaded back by Canadian concert promoter John Brower (that's him in the fur hat in the press conference photo) to perform at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival (with the newly-formed Plastic Ono Band featuring Eric Clapton), which was filmed by D.A. Pennebaker and later released as "Sweet Toronto".

 John and Yoko's return to Toronto in December coincided with their worldwide campaign for peace, featuring the (now famous) slogan,"War Is Over (If You Want It)". The campaign was launched simultaneously in Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto and Europe with billboards, posters and flyers.

 At the time of John and Yoko's visit in December, John Brower (now a spokesperson and personal friend to Lennon and Ono) distributed the "War Is Over" poster to his regular team (who also circulated flyers and posters for the Rock Pile and the Toronto Pop Festival, among other Brower productions); this poster is the last surviving copy, obtained from one Brower's team members.
