 ITEM DESCRIPTION

 Original 1st printing 18&1/2 x 25" concert/event poster for the Toronto Rock & Roll Revival, held at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Ontario (Canada) on 9/13/1969.

  Single-day event featured performances by: John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band (featuring Eric Clapton, Klaus Voorman, Alan White and Yoko Ono *not listed), Whiskey Howl, Bo Diddley, Chicago (Transit Authority), Junior Walker and the All-Stars, Tony Joe White, Alice Cooper, Chuck Berry, Cat Mother and the All-Night Newsboys, Jerry Lee Lewis, Gene Vincent, Little Richard, Doug Kershaw, Kim Fowley and The Doors.

 Design by Hiller, Rinaldo and Associates, medium flat index stock poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; a bit of edge crinkling/light creasing and a hint of toning, a few stray surface dings and tiny scuffs scattered around the image area, a few ultra-soft horizontal roll bends, a small surface indentation or two, a couple of tiny corner bumps and a split/"dog-ear" corner tip or two, otherwise fine.

 A REALLY nice-looking example of the increasingly hard-to-find 1st printing poster from this show. According to the consignor, there are a few interesting back stories associated with the event, among them;

 -According to Promoter John Brower, ticket sales for the event were lagging, so he phoned Apple Records in London and personally asked John Lennon (a well-documented '50's-era rock & roll enthusiast and fan) to "help out" (Brower suggested he could have free tickets or perhaps emcee the festival). In a surprise move, John not only agreed to attend, but also perform.

 -Alice Cooper (who was not very well-known at all at this point) asked John Brower that, if he could open for John Lennon, his band would play for free (which apparently they did). Alice's set (which was filmed) featured the now-legendary "chicken incident", featured in the recent documentary "Super-Duper Alice Cooper".

 -The Doors closed the festival with a performance of "The End", at the beginning of which, Jim Morrison tells the audience what an honor it was to be to be preceded on the same stage by "so many illustrious musical geniuses".

 -The ticket price for the 13-hour-long show was $6.00.

 KILLER original 1969 poster from an absolutely LEGENDARY show! Watch the ENTIRE Plastic Ono Band set (D.A. Pennebaker's "Sweet Toronto") HERE;
