 ITEM DESCRIPTION
Original 1967 2nd printing 14&1/4 x 20" concert poster for Country Joe & the Fish appearing with John Fahey and the Wildflower at the Finnish Brotherhood Hall in Berkeley, CA on 1/6/1967 and again from 1/13-14/1967.

Art by Loren Rehbock, image (with a few minor printing differences- *see below) is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 213 (plate 2.270). *This is a VERY UNCOMMON distributor-commissioned variant.

Medium flat vellum stock poster is in excellent to near mint (B+ to A-/B+) condition; just a few ultra-soft tiny pin-prick stains and press indentations/dings in the outer margin area, a tiny edge/corner bump or two and a thin strip of toning on the reverse, otherwise fine.

*This printing is believed to have been commissioned by Bay Area poster distributor Lorin Gilette in early 1967 as a promotional item for his distribution business; this version bears credits for both Lorin Gilette and for the Bindweed Press, who apparently printed this version. There are a few noticeable changes, among them: different paper stock (vellum vs. index), removal of both the union bug and ticket outlet strip, along with completely different "Golden Sheaf Bakery Presents" credit and slight change in the yellow/orange sphere behind the girl's head (I have pictured an original handbill next to the poster for comparison). I can say with certainty that I have NEVER seen this particular version before- it was acquired in a collection of all early 1967 1st printings , so it definitely falls within the correct timeline. My guess is that the print run was VERY low on this item and that they were all given away or sold by Lorin Gilette at the time. If anyone has any more specific information regarding the printing history for this piece, I would love to hear it.... this is quite a curious oddity!
