Original 1st printing 14&3/8 x 20" concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with John Hammond and his Screaming Nighthawks and Robert Baker from 3/24-25/1967 and with Quicksilver Messenger Service on 3/26/1967, all shows held at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA.
Art by Rick Griffin, image is # 54 in the Family Dog/Avalon series.
Medium flat index stock poster is in good/decent (B/B- to B-) condition; a 7" diagonal bend going from the upper left margin to just above the "u" in "Grateful" (top center margin), plus an area of discoloration/toning (about 1&1/2" in from the left edge) and a few small edge dings/creases running down the length of the left margin , a series of semi-pronounced pinch dings and tiny nicks running down the right margin, a soft 6" roll bend and ultra-thin horizontal crease going from the right center margin to just underneath the first "A" of "Avalon", light handling wear, a hint of toning and a series of tape pulls on the reverse... while this example has its flaws, it still presents itself in a very charming old-timey manner.
According to a VERY well-researched account, none other than Eric Burdon & the Animals stopped by to play a surprise set on Sunday the 26th- read all about it HERE:
