 ITEM DESCRIPTION
Original 1st printing 5&5/8 x 8&1/2" MAILED concert handbill for Texas psychedelic/fuzz rock legends the 13th Floor Elevators (with Roky Erickson) appearing with Quicksilver Messenger Service at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 9/30-10/1/1966.

Art by Stanley Mouse & Alton Kelley, image ("Zebra Man") is # 28 in the Family Dog/Avalon series. This particular example has been hand-addressed (in blue fountain pen)and mailed (with the original September 27 1966 postmark and canceled 4 cent stamp) and does not include the additional pass of yellow ink on the face that most examples have (*black ink only).

Thin flat stock handbill has been restored to very good/excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there's a semi-flattened center crease (as issued, folded in half for mailing), plus a thin diagonal bend in the upper left margin, a few thin handling dings/tiny creases, etc... the original staple holes and a couple of small tears have been sealed/repaired, along with a bit of flattening... looks very nice overall.

A VERY nice-looking (and possibly unique) example of what was apparently the FIRST-EVER Avalon mailer!
