Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 11" hand-addressed and MAILED concert flyer for the Sir Douglas Quintet plus Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) and "a Special Surprize Visit"* appearing at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 10/15-16/1966. Art by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley with a photo by Edward Steichen (Gloria Swanson, 1924), image is # 30 in the Family Dog/Avalon series. Thin flat stock flyer is in good/decent (B to B/B-) condition; a set of horizontal folds (as issued for mailing, along with an additional flattened fold going across the center of the image), several pin staple holes in (all four corners with a few hiding within the image area), a bit of bleed from the ink used to address the item in the top center margin, a small pull on the reverse, along with a bit of additional ink bleed in the top center area of the reverse and a cancelled 1966 5 cent stamp (postmarked 10/12/1966), otherwise fine. The "Surprize Visit"* alluded to above was by none other than the 13th Floor Elevators, making this FD anniversary celebration an all-Texan-fronted affair... not to mention the ad-hoc jam fronted by Jerry Garcia and Pigpen on the 16th (as mentioned in "Mojo Navigator"*). http://lostlivedead.blogspot.com/2009/07/october-15-1966-avalon-san-francisco-ca.html
