Original 1st printing 5&1/2 x 8&1/2" concert handbill for the Grateful Dead appearing with Moby Grape, Love (featuring Arthur Lee), Loading Zone and Blue Crumb Truck Factory at Winterland in San Francisco, CA on 3/3/1967* (after a few false starts, this was actually the very first GD appearance at Winterland). Art by Herrick, (full-color poster) image ("The First Annual Love Circus") is featured in the Art of Rock on page 188 (plate 2.194)- this is the monochrome handbill. Thin textured semi-gloss stock handbill is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; a set of pin/staple holes in the left center margin, the "W" and "N" of "Winterland" and all four corners (the top right corner has a small pull and a tiny edge tear), a couple of tiny thin creases in the bottom right corner, a thin 1" scrape on the first "D" of "Dead" and a stray pinch ding or two, otherwise fine. Very neat little handbill from the Dead's Winterland debut. Charles Perry details the Dead's participation at the show, the involvement of the SF Diggers and the promoters ("Love Conspiracy Commune") in his book "Haight-Ashbury- A History".
