Original 1st printing 24&3/4 x 36&3/4" (appx.- trimmed down from 25 x 38" original size) concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing at Nassau Coliseum in Hempstead, NY (Long Island) on 3/15-16/1973. Design by David Byrd, image ("A Swell Dance Concert") is pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 403 (plate 4.220) and is (informally) known as # 288 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series. Medium-thick flat index stock poster is in decent/used (B-) condition; aside from the aforementioned edge trimming, the piece is toned, there is a large 3-4" area and a 5" vertical tear at the top edge that has been repaired on the reverse with clear tape, along with a set of tack holes, a few small stains along the right edge, a 2" horizontal tear in the lower right margin... you get the idea, this one had a pretty hearty existence.... but since it was owned (since the show) by a long-time Dead crew member who worked at these shows (and MANY others), we'll give it a pass. A classic Grateful Dead image from the first shows performed after Pigpen died.... interestingly, David Byrd's design depicts a couple doing a popular 1940's-era dance called "the Big Apple"- an amusing New York tribute.
