Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 11" tan/buff colored-stock concert flyer for the ("Amazing") Charlatans appearing with Jefferson Airplane at California Hall in San Francisco, CA on 1/8/1966. Art by head Charlatan George Hunter, image ("Rock & Roll Biplane") pre-dates the numbering system implemented by the Family Dog after Chet Helms took over several weeks after this show, this image is designated FD-IV in the Eric King guide. Thin flat stock flyer is in very good (B/B+) condition; a pair of tears in the left margin (1/8" and 1/2"), a 1&1/2" diagonal bend in the bottom right corner, a hint of toning around the edges and a VERY light amount of handling, otherwise a fantastic-looking example of this early pre-numbered Family Dog flyer. This show ran concurrently with the Fillmore Acid Test, so the promoters for both shows provided transportation between the two venues so neither would be undersold. Allegedly, temporary FD caretakers/promoters Danny Rifkin and Rock Scully bailed on their own show to check out the Fillmore and never made it back. The pair hit it off with the Grateful Dead and they soon found themselves managing the band. An interesting artifact with a cool back story.
