Original 1st printing 11&1/2 x 16&1/2" 20-page issue of "The Black Panther Intercommunal News Service" (Volume 6, issue #3) underground newspaper, featuring a full-page ad for "Revolutionary Intercommunal Day of Solidarity", a rally for Panthers Bobby Seale, Angela Davis and others, featuring speeches by Huey P. Newton, Kathleen Cleaver, along with a musical performance by the Grateful Dead, held at the Oakland Auditorium Arena in Oakland, CA on 3/5/1971. Poster image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 359 (plate 4.79). Thin newsprint stock paper is in good/decent (B/B-) condition; horizontal center fold (as issued), a bit of toning/fading, wear, a fair amount of edge fraying/tattering/browning around the outer edges, a tiny bit of pen scribble on the cover and the usual amount of wear associated with a 41-year-old newspaper, HOWEVER.... what a FASCINATING document! The story behind this event and the Dead's participation (a chance meeting with Huey Newton) has been well-documented from the band's side of things, but apparently they were dwarfed by the magnitude of the highly-politicized Panther message. After a quick look through this paper, you get to read all about where the Panthers were at and their side of the event. VERY interesting (and obscure) Grateful Dead-related item.
