 ITEM DESCRIPTION

Original 1st printing 1st state (Walkill) version 21&3/4 x 32&1/4" hand-silkscreened concert poster for the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair Aquarian Exposition in White Lake, NY on 8/15-17.1969. Art by Arnold Skolnick, image (the final White Lake offset version) is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 257 (plate 3.1) This preliminary 1st state poster advertises performances by Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Tim Hardin, Richie Havens, the Incredible String Band,  Bert Sommer, Ravi Shankar, Sweetwater, Canned Heat, Creedence Clearwater (Revival), the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Keef Hartley, the Who, Janis Joplin, Mountain, the Band, the Jeff Beck Group (backed out), Joe Cocker, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Johnny Winter, Crosby Stills & Nash, Iron Butterfly (who were left at the airport in NYC after their management made numerous unreasonable demands for private helicopters), the Moody Blues (who decided to play at a rally in Paris instead) and Jimi Hendrix. Not listed on the poster (but did perform); Ten Years After, Sly & the Family Stone, Country Joe & the Fish, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, John Sebastian, Neil Young (with CSN), Quill and Sha-Na-Na. Medium-thin flat index stock poster has been professionally restored (by Chris Fennell at Chameleon Restoration) to excellent (B+) condition; several edge tears have been repaired and the poster has been backed with rice paper for stability. Aside from that, there are a couple of tiny cracks, a couple of ultra-soft surface waves and some light toning is still visible, but it really looks pretty spectacular overall. A VERY nice looking example of the Skolnick Walkill silkscreen.
