 ITEM DESCRIPTION

Original 1st printing 19&1/4" x 30" silkscreen concert poster for Traffic (with Steve Winwood) on 9/24/1967 (their UK debut) and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (featuring future Rolling Stone Mick Taylor), (Peter Green's) Fleetwood Mac(k) and Long John Baldry on 9/17/1967, both at the Saville Theatre in London, England. Design by Hapshash & the Coloured Coat (Michael English and Nigel Waymouth), image is the second image in Brian Epstein's "Sunday at the Saville" (OAS) series and is featured in the Art of Rock on page 312 (plate 3.188), this is a VERY uncommon version/variant with a blue/purple ink pass, as opposed to the traditional black.

Medium to medium-thin flat stock silkscreened poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; a slightly off-register pass of ink, a pair of small (under 1") tears in the left margin, a light amount of handling, minor corner creasing, several scattered tiny edge nicks/tiny tears and a slight curl, otherwise fine. As of this moment, this is one of ONLY TWO KNOWN EXAMPLES with the blue-purple pass of ink- compared to the more common black-ink versions, this one has a much softer (and in my opinion, prettier) overall look.

Unlike the other Saville posters (Hendrix/Floyd, Hendrix/Burdon, Who/Junior Walker), this image wasn't reprinted, making it one of the harder-to-find Savilles. This is a TRULY exceptional example.

Q Hi, can you help? I have one of these posters, but it is black ink not blue. How can I tell if it is a Original? It has a few marks and pin holes. Kind regards Jez  posted by: Jez  5/15/2012 11:48:20 AM
