Original 1st printing 22&1/2 x 29&7/8" concert poster for the Grateful Dead at West High Auditorium in Anchorage, AK on 6/19-21/1980. Design by (and SIGNED and HAND-COLORED by) Gladstone Hollen of Paul's & Randy's Posters (with the central image of the Phoenix borrowed from Stanley Mouse), image is in the Art of Rock book on page 377 (plate 4.140). Thin glossy pale blue stock version (there is also a more common white paper stock version) poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; a fair amount of edge creasing, a couple of pieces of clear tape in the corners, light handling, a few small stress creases... this piece was actually brought back from Alaska by an attendee of all three shows; as he puts it:
"it was only days since being in Portland when Mt. St. Helens erupted and the band played Fire On The Mountain appropriately. The tribe went crazy in Alaska, there was 23+ hours of daylight per day and we were ready for summer solstice. We went around to the stores posting the posters for the concerts and asked for them after the shows. At one point, a man approached me who asked if I liked the poster design and that he was in fact the artist. He hand colored and signed one for me. He confided in me that he was never happy with finished poster and that was why he embellished mine !"
A VERY cool and unique one-of-a-kind version of a classic Grateful Dead poster from an awesome set of 1980 fifteenth-anniversary shows. Listen to the 6/20 show here;
