Original 1st printing 17&3/8 x 22&3/8" event/concert poster for the 6/4-5/1970 Transcontinental Pop Festival, held at Mcmahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This show (the final stop on the legendary "Festival Express" train tour across Canada) featured performances by the the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, the Band, Buddy Guy, Delaney & Bonnie, Mashmakan, Charlebois, James & the Good Brothers, Eric Andersen, Mountain, Ian & Sylvia and the Great Speckled Bird, Tom Rush, John Sebastian and Smith. Design by Ken Walker and John Lown, image (identical image from the Toronto stop) is featured in the art of Rock on page 376 (plate 4.132). Thin flat stock Poster is in excellent (B+) condition; a small 1/2" tear in the bottom right margin, a pair of tiny edge nips in the upper right corner, a light amount of wear along the right edge and a small diagonal bend in the lower right corner, otherwise a superb example of this oft-requested poster. A very cool artifact from a legendary tour (immortalized in the film "Festival Express"), Janis Joplin summed it all up at this show when, upon gifting the promoters with a case of tequila and a cake, "Next time you throw a train, invite ME, man!"... Classic!
