Original 1st printing 2nd/final state (White Lake) version 24 x 36&5/8" (large format) concert poster for the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair Aquarian Exposition, held in White Lake, NY from 8/15-17.1969. Art by Arnold Skolnick, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 257 (plate 3.1). This is the LARGE-format version. Poster advertises performances by Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Tim Hardin, Richie Havens, the Incredible String Band, Bert Sommer, Ravi Shankar, Sly & the Family Stone and Sweetwater (8/15), Canned Heat, Creedence Clearwater (Revival), the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Santana, Quill, Keef Hartley, the Who, Janis Joplin and Mountain, (8/16), the Band, the Jeff Beck Group (*canceled), Joe Cocker (and the Grease Band), Blood, Sweat & Tears, Johnny Winter, Crosby, Stills & Nash (with an unadvertised appearance by Neil Young), Iron Butterfly (*canceled/stranded at the airport), Ten Years After and Jimi Hendrix (with Gypsies, Suns and Rainbows). Not listed on the poster (but did perform); Country Joe McDonald (with and without the Fish), the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, John Sebastian and Sha-Na-Na. Medium-thin glossy stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there are a series of fairly well-camouflaged thin stress creases, a few light handling dings and few hairline-thin soft bends scattered around the image area, a couple of hairline-thin edge creases along the lower right margin, a couple of minor print anomalies on the guitar neck (a minor stripping error) and a couple of nearly-invisible soft horizontal bends, otherwise it is a SUPERB-looking 1st-printing example of this iconic almost-50-year-old festival poster. Additionally, this example has been authenticated on the reverse (lower left corner) in pencil by Phil Cushway of Artrock (see photo).
