 ITEM DESCRIPTION

 Original 1st printing 24 x 36" concert/event merchandising poster for the Newport Pop Festival, held at San Fernando Valley State College in Devonshire Downs (Northridge), CA from 6/20-22/1969.

 Art by Tom Bailey, poster lists festival participants Albert King, the Chambers Brothers, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Spirit, Edwin Hawkins Singers, Ike & Tina Turner Revue, Joe Cocker (and the Grease Band), Southwind, Taj Mahal, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steppenwolf, Albert Collins, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Brenton Wood, Charity, Eric Burdon, Friends of Distinction, Jethro Tull, Love, Sweetwater, the Rascals, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, Flock, Grass Roots, Johnny Winter, Marvin Gaye, Mother Earth, the Byrds, Three Dog Night and Poco.

 Medium-thin flat index stock poster is in excellent (B+) condition; aside from a bit of light creasing in the lower left margin/corner, a tiny 3/4" tear (sealed on the reverse with clear tape) in the lower right margin, a bit of mounting tape residue on the reverse and a whisper of handling wear, this is a great-looking example of the large Newport '69 merchandising poster (these were apparently distributed at the event).

 Impressive-looking original 1969 festival poster with a killer Hendrix design. Check out early footage of Poco performing at the event (one of their earliest gigs) HERE;

Q I can't say this with any authority but I believe I read somewhere that Bob Masse did the lettering for this. Regardless, he produces prints of this and signs them. Thanks and cheers, STeve   posted by: sdickins  2/24/2019 5:25:45 PM
