Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 5&1/2" concert handbill for the John Coltrane Quartet (featuring McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones) appearing with the Aretha Franklin at the Bitter End in New York City from 7/11-23/1961. (*Aretha only from 7/24-8/6) Designer unknown/not credited, VERY thin flat stock broadside-style handbill is in very good (B/B+) condition; there are a quartet of tape pulls with a tiny bit of glue residue on the reverse (covered with small pieces of paper for reinforcement), resulting in a bit of corner wear on the front (slight thinning of paper, along with a tiny split/tear in the lower left corner tip), plus a flattened pair of horizontal/vertical creases, a few light handling dings here and there and a whisper of surface wear, otherwise it is a SUPERB-looking example of this VERY early Aretha Franklin/John Coltrane concert artifact from Art D'Lugoff's legendary Greenwich Village nightspot. An interesting side note, Aretha Franklin was all of NINETEEN YEARS OLD when these performances took place!!!
