Original 1st printing 14 x 20" concert poster for the Grateful Dead making their New York City debut at the legendary Cafe Au Go-Go in Greenwich Village from 6/1-10/1967 (some dates may have changed, Deadbase lists the dates as June 6-11). Art by Daniel Fennell, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 305 (plate 3.163). Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; there are a few stray handling dings and light creases here and there, a hint of edge wear, a couple of lightly-toned corners and a series of tiny pin-prick marks from a bit of magic-marker bleed from the reverse side (*more on that below), otherwise fine. *The reverse side of the poster has a large hand-written message (in red and green magic marker) that reads: "Attention Mothers (*as in Frank Zappa and the Mothers)- Interview for ALL Mothers with Escapade Magazine Thursday June 8, 1967 at 1:00 PM in Theatre- Formal Dress"; Although I don't know who wrote it, this message was was directed to the members of the Mothers of Invention, (who were performing a six-month engagement at the Garrick Theater, upstairs from the Cafe Au-Go-Go) for an interview with a (now out-of-print) men's magazine. Read the interview*** HERE: http://www.afka.net/Articles/1967-11_Escapade_1.htm (*we have the poster for the Mothers engagement listed separately) A FASCINATING one-of-a-kind example of this oft-requested Grateful Dead image from the AOR, the interior gate-fold of the Dead's 1974 "Steal Your Face" album has a 1967 photo of the band standing in front of a wall in NYC plastered with this very same poster (see photo -*(c). Rosie McGee). ***Extra-special thanks to Eric for the link to the FZ interview!!!
