Original 1st printing 22&1/2 x 17&1/2" concert poster for a Hells Angels Motorcycle Club-sponsored dance featuring Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), appearing with the Youngbloods and Rejoice at the Carousel Ballroom In San Francisco, CA on 5/15/1968.
Artist unknown/not credited, image ("The Hells Angels Present in Tear-Ass Sound and Color") is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 207 (plate 2.249).
Medium-thick flat index stock poster is in good/decent (B to B/B-) condition; there are a series of hard vertical roll bends/stress creases traversing the entire image area, along with a set of tack holes in all four corners, a light to moderate amount of toning, a couple of tiny pin-prick surface stains in the bottom center margin, a few light creases and thin diagonal bends in three of the four corners and a light amount of surface wear, otherwise it is a very presentable example of this VERY hard-to-find Hells Angels/Big Brother/Carousel poster.
According to numerous sources, this was an EXTREMELY raucous event- the participants spilled so much beer that it leaked through the floor to the business below, effectively ending the musicians' stewardship of the venue. (*photo- Eve Crane, 1968)
