 ITEM DESCRIPTION

Original 1st printing (small edition) 12&1/4 x 21&3/8" concert/event poster for the first and only Monterey International Pop Festival, held at the Monterey (CA) Fairgrounds Arena (and surrounding area) from 6/16-18/1967.

Art by Tom Wilkes, image is featured in the Art of Rock on page 258 (plate 3.5).

While no acts are listed on the poster, the (now-legendary) three-day event featured performances by the Association, Laura Nyro, Lou Rawls, Hugh Masekela, Eric Burdon and the Animals, the Byrds, the Blues Project, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, the Electric Flag, Moby Grape, Country Joe & the Fish, the Blues Project, Steve Miller Band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Al Kooper, the Paupers, Simon & Garfunkel, Johnny Rivers, the Mamas & the Papas, Canned Heat, Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), Otis Redding with the Bar-Kays and Booker T. & the MG's, Ravi Shankar, the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, the Who and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Thick foil-coated index stock poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; there are a couple of minor pressure indentations scattered around the outer margin area, a touch of fading on the yellow pass of ink, a light amount of surface wear (tiny thin scratches, rub marks/scuffs), a few thin handling/stress creases hiding within the image area, a couple of thin creases in the upper right corner/margin and a series of glue/tape residue marks on the reverse (see photo), otherwise fine.

A GREAT-looking example of this iconic 1967 festival poster!
